Humanities Academy

Designed for:

Students with a strong interest in performing and visual arts. If you enjoy reading, performing, discussions, and open-end inquiry, this is the program for you!

Criteria for Acceptance:

• Strong teacher recommendation indicating suitability for the program.
• Grades and achievement test scores indicating student is working at grade level.

Honors Class (School for Advanced Studies):

• Students who are State Identified Gifted or have the ability to be identified Gifted according to LAUSD criteria will be placed in the honors class of the academy. Reed offers School for Advanced Studies (SAS) permits for students who meet the criteria.

Special Features:

• Academic rigor and differentiated instruction combined with innovative, project-based, cross-curriculum assignments.
• Two academy teachers share sixth grade core academic classes.
• Four separate subject academy teachers teach two year sequential curriculum for the 7th and 8th grades.
• 3 year sequential humanities-based enrichment classes which may include introduction to Latin, creative writing, visual arts, drama, and art history.
• Additional enrichment opportunities may include music, art, technology, and leadership, schedule permitting.

After October 27th, please call the school main office if you would like to schedule a SLC tour. Tours of each SLC begin at 8 a.m. in the school auditorium on the following Wednesdays:
